‘Naked DJ’ is the best novel I’ve ever read in my life….well in the past two evenings anyway. You get sex, drugs, rock & roll….radio, voice over commercial auditions, Penthouse photo shoots and more.It’s a story about a woman in the big time radio business written by one of the greatest broadcasters…who just happened to be a woman…of all time, ‘The Rock and Roll Madame’, Jo Meader. She lived it, survived it, and wrote about it.
When I was on the air in NY in the 80’s I was told that…”If what you say isn’t as interesting or entertaining as the next tune you are about to play…play the record!” In this tome the author writes “Rule Number One! Never learn the music! People tune in for what you have to say, not what you have to play.” This is inside stuff boys and girls. If you are thinking of a career as a DJ, especially if you are a female, this ‘work of fiction’ is a must read. Or you can simply take this reviewers advice and just don’t, learn air conditioning maintenance or something profitable.
By the way the writing is delicious, so good I that I felt like eating the book. In fact now that I’ve read it I just might eat it. Strange? Well I, like the author, am a former DJ. Good work Madame….rock/write on!

Jo Maeder has done it again with another fascinating and well-written story! Based on her life and successful career in radio, it gives the reader an insight into the business but is also a story that many working women will relate to. Being a woman in a business filled with and run by men has its own set of challenges, and the storyline and characters will have you hooked. A great and engaging read that will stay with you!
Loved this book! A wonderful and unique coming of age story! I loved getting a peek into the fascinating world of pop music! The characters are wonderfully developed and relatable despite being from a subculture that I was not familiar with--the romances were compelling and I actually stayed up till 3 am to find out how it would end. Love the descriptions of the old rock music mixed with Rap.
Incredibly entertaining and well written. Great information about how radio really works and the special moments when a DJ feels they are really on. It's really quite difficult to put this book down once one gets in to it. Good story, good information, food for thought, the good the bad and the ugly of relationships we have all experienced, and it's fun.

Jo Maeder delightfully serves the whole dessert with sassy characters whose daily lives raise eyebrows and tug at heartstrings. Loved this book. Totally caught up in the lives of the characters. Loved some of them and rooted for their sucess and happiness while not liking some of them yet still involved in what happens to them. Always a pleasure to have such strong feelings about people brought to life by a masterful wordsmith.
Somewhat sorry I finished the book and find myself wondering about these people and how they are currently doing. Wouldn't mind a follow up story on them all.
This book caught me by surprise. Having been in radio for many years, I thought I'd check it out. I couldn't put it down. "Naked DJ" exposes many of radio's dirty little secrets while weaving them through a personal story that so many can relate to. I read it in two nights.
Discovered this book while poking around online and decided to give it a read. Wow, am I glad I did!
Having spent my adolescent and teen years completely absorbed in rock music and radio, the backdrop for Naked DJ had me out of the gate. The protagonist is woman DJ attempting to crack into the #1 radio market --New York City. The cast of characters includes an ex-boyfriend/rapper who is trying to stage a career comeback, a host of different on-air personalities, a slick record company promo man, station managers, consultants, agents, a super fan and the like. A great storyline and a look inside both the business of radio and reality television are framed with a bunch of funny wisecracks, real depth of emotion/self-examination, hold your breath moments and plenty of great rock and roll references.
Word of warning If you're taking this book to the beach, apply your sunscreen before you start turning pages...
